All Things You Need To Know About Muck Rack (For Writers)

Hello, 1, 526 awesome people! In our commitment to sharing opportunities with you, we also try to create content around excellent tools you can use in your day-to-day activities.

Now, you might be wondering, what is Muck Rack? That is the answer. You should or might have been asking yourself, "How do I ensure my writing is on one platform?" Or "How do I create a writing portfolio?"

I will dive in. Muck Rack says, "Muck Rack provides free tools to help journalists like you automatically compile and showcase your portfolio, track the impact of stories, keep up with news, and expand your online footprint."

  • Free Tool: Muck Rack is free to use, especially if you are starting out as a journalist.
  • Automatic compilation: Muckrack automatically pulls your work from digital outlets and publishes the links on the platform (provided the outlet has an account on the platform). This ensures that you can always write without the pressure to update manually, although this will be needed if the platform you are publishing your articles is not on Muck Rack or has not given you a byline.
  • Showcase your portfolio: Muck Rack ensures you have a verified account with all your work (see example below).

If you have not written for long, it means that if someone searches your name on Google, they won't get you easily (or your work). Muck Rack helps people see your name on the first page of Google after searching for it (Mind you, if you have written much content online, most likely your name will appear on the site with most of your work) Look at the two examples below;

Much Rack ranks your name before other platforms when you have not published much online. This is especially good if you are starting out.

Once your work is online, the platform most of your work will rank you first. Good for credibility if it's a well-known outlet.

What Do You Need to Create An Account

You do ot need much. Just the little things. Little things like your email address and a Twitter account. A Twitter account is especially important to ensure you get verified.

Now, Muck Ruck would be useful for Kenyan journalists, but in my opinion, it is either not tailored to our needs, or we do not utilize it as much as we should. For instance, I realized that you could search for contacts (emails especially) of editors. This could help you pitch your stories since getting some of these emails is difficult. I admit I have not fully explored that side, but I will and will share my findings too.

There is also an AI tool updated on the platform called PressPal.ai. It would be great to know who revolutionizes your experiences. Try it out and snitch to us.

If you read to this end, thank you. I hope you found the article useful. Now, do yourself a favor and create your impressive Muck Rack profile.
