All things are created twice....

“All things are created twice.”

The intriguing words of consultant and public speaker Stephen Covey.

He went on to expand – “There’s a mental or first creation, and then a physical or second creation to all things.”

Many of the tasks we complete on a daily basis go through this process.

From an artist committing ideas to paper, drafting out a concept, to an engineer?putting an invention into a prototype, we often visualize ideas before making them a reality.

The power of visualization is such a powerful tool.

We have unlimited creativity in our minds, anything you can imagine you can make real, the only limitation being the natural laws of the universe.?

Coveys’ book ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People’ gave the following example.

Take the construction of a building. You create it in intricate detail before you hammer the first nail into place, or dig the first foundations.

Then we simplify everything down, to create a blueprint and set of plans for construction.

You have to ensure that the blueprints, the first creation, are totally accurate and correct. Sure that you’ve thought everything through. Then bringing together all of the materials, bricks and mortar, you begin to create with the finished item in mind.

“Through imagination, we can visualize the uncreated worlds of potential that lie within us’.

Friends and family can often call our ambitions ‘pipe dreams’, but when it comes to starting a business the power of mental visualization is the most important creative skill you can develop.?

I’m sure developers were sceptical over the designs for the Disney Music Hall in Los Angeles (pictured above), saying it couldn’t be done. No doubt it would never have looked as impressive or sleek without a detailed plan.?

Developing a set of ideas for your new business with every intricate detail of what makes you special or different can also save heartache and problems later.?

But most importantly it gives us something to strip down and create a set of action plans from. Business plans to hold you on track to creating your spectacular vision.

Starting with the end in mind gives us a greater chance of achieving our goals.

When working with business coaching clients, I often use the analogy of what would your business look like if Carlsberg ran it.

This is a tough bit of homework, but I get business owners to let their imagination run wild.

The best [ insert your business here / electrical contractors / photography studio / accountants / estate agents / coffee shop ] in the world would look like……..

Go on, grab a cup of tea, find a quiet corner and give it a go. Then make notes.

It’s a great way of coming up with ideas to differentiate your business from the competition.?Then it’s just a case of creating a plan and finding ways to make them happen.

If you need a fresh set of eyes in your business, working with a business coach can really help create a new perspective.

?It’s never too late to head back to the drawing board and create the business of your dreams.

Let’s have a coffee and a chat about your business and see how we could work together.?

One conversation could just re-ignite your imagination.

Pick a time that suits you in my diary and let’s talk.
