To all the students of the Lebanese University!

To all the students of the Lebanese University!

I will not talk about the challenges the Lebanese University is currently facing ... I will not dwell either on the ongoing sabotage process by the authorities, which exposes our national institution to a grave danger and an uncertain future. You should all know by now the very existence of the Lebanese University is put at risk while the decision-makers in our country turn a deaf ear. There is one constant and unconditional fact to remember! Whether or not budget and other benefits cuts are implemented, our determination to provide the best in teaching, supervision and training will be unwavering. This is a culture of excellence, innovation, and consistency we are all geared to maintain and keep developing. Our institution is not a set of buildings, walled classrooms and laboratories! First and foremost it is our home! It has a noble mission to train world class graduates to shine everywhere in the world, to provide the country with all the professionals they need to create a sound and sustainable economy, to build a prosperous nation with equal employment opportunity for everyone, to prepare for the future challenges in a proactive way, etc. These are among our traditions at the Lebanese University!

The least we expect from the different members of our community, scientists, technicians, students, and administration, is loyalty! It is our duty to all to defend it! However, if you consider the Lebanese university as a simple vehicle to reach your destination without any attachment to or any duty to support it, kindly don't curse the teaching corps for their commitment to preserve the only institution in our jaded country that nurtures a fleeting hope that Lebanon might reemerge from its ashes, like the phoenix, stronger, unified and prosper. Unless you have something good to say, please say nothing, it is simple, honorable and intuitive! I don’t blame any of you for not supporting the strike, sit-ins, and other forms of protestations…this is your right! However, if you do not want to be part of the crew and help save the sinking ship, either wait patiently till we fix it or simply get off and take another one to navigate to your destination! It's also intuitive!

Best wishes to all,

Prof. Fahd Nasr
