It all started when they said NO!

It all started when they said NO!

One of the things I wanted so badly growing up was a bicycle. Many children of my age had one, and I didn’t see any reason why I shouldn’t have one either.

?

I asked my parents to buy me one, and they said no multiple times. My mom promised she would get it when she had enough money.

?

I knew they could afford it at that time, but they didn’t think it was important enough. I got tired of asking and decided to save up for it.

?

But when I asked for the price, I realized it would take at least 3 years of saving at that pace until I could buy it.

?

I accepted my fate and forgot about it. Till now, I couldn’t ride a bicycle.

?

You see, no one likes to be told no.

?

And if you hate asking for things, it’s even more difficult.

?

Anytime I’m asked, “How did you get started as a copywriter?”

?

I tell people the part I want them to know.

?

I had just finished secondary school, and out of curiosity and a will to start making my own money, I discovered copywriting.

?

But the truth is, I’ve always wanted to be independent. And I showed this trait growing up.

?

I never liked asking my parents for anything; instead, I'd save up money from my allowance to buy it myself. I only ask for their help when I can’t afford it.

?

We had a close-knit family, and I could see how my parents struggled to provide a comfortable life for us.

?

I didn’t want to add to their burdens by wanting too much.

?

And I desperately wanted to help in any way I could.

?

While waiting for admission, I made a decision to start an apprenticeship at a tailor’s shop in my area. The goal was to learn and be good enough to start making clothes for my friends in school when I gained admission.

?

When I started, I realized my boss wasn’t making that much, and the work was stressful. I thought to explore less stressful ways of making money.

?

I heard about copywriting and attended a free webinar, and I felt a spark immediately.

?

The next thing I did was ask my father to give me 5,000 naira to sign up for a 30-day copywriting course.

?

I literally had to give a speech on why I needed the money.

?

After the course, I had so much fire in me to go out there and start making zillions of dollars.

?

I was frustrated multiple times because things didn't go as planned.

?

My parents didn't understand what my job was, but they knew it made me emotionally stressed, and they used to tell me to quit.

?

I considered quitting because I had no results to show for it.

?

Long story short, I've started making strides and although it's been slow growth, it's worth it.

?

Thank you for reading this far.

?

Now tell me, how did you get started in your current field?
