All the Secrets of the Master Mind; Power!

Insights from the 16 Laws of Success by Napoleon Hill, published 1928.

In summary of the introductory chapter, the key elements are easy to employ if you choose to accept them. If you are willing to hit the “I Believe” button, you will save yourself about 100 pages of the 117 page introduction. Napoleon Hill spends much of your time convincing you of the validity of the argument of how Master Minds work. It would be much easier to just believe it works and experiment with it for yourself to disprove it. 

Let’s first reaffirm what a Master Mind is and is not. It is not the same group training commonly talked about today as masterminds where individuals learn from other’s experiences. This is important because while that type of environment is useful for learning, it is not as useful for getting things done. 

The Master Mind is a vehicle to get things done. It is created when two or more minds come together. It would become an extra mind for the group to draw knowledge and inspiration from. Nevermind the science or ideas of why it comes into existence and how it works. What only matters is that if you take it as fact, know that you can use it to enhance your position and the position of those you are working with. 

The reason you would want to use a Master Mind is because it organizes both knowledge and effort. The organization of knowledge and effort is the prerequisite to power. Power is used to influence and shape the world to your desires. So by organizing knowledge and effort with a group of two or more people, the Master Mind provides the vehicle to grow and employ the power in the direction of a desired chief aim. 

What do I mean by “organizing knowledge” and “organizing effort”? 

It means to put facts into order and align them around an idea. For example; the current situation has a lot of people scared. We begin with classifying the facts in an effort to find a positive economic opportunity. We know it is a virus with about a 30 day life cycle. We know that it must enter through the eyes, nose, mouth, or ear to infect the host. We know that it has a higher than normal mortality rate for a flu virus. So with just those facts, we would work together to brainstorm and find ways to build economic prosperity. When I did this exercise with a fellow colleague, the following conclusions were made: any business that provides sanitation services will be in high demand, any business that is logistics based will be needed and innovated, and any technology that could easily sanitize hands without negative impacts and is reusable would be a future need and current old ways of using hand sanitizer will run out. 

We would then organize effort from those three ideas with an almost an infinite amount of specific products and services that can be developed. The next step with the Master Mind would be to find individuals who want to partner on a particular project and bring it into reality.

When Mr. Hill wrote this chapter, he did not originally have the Master Mind as a Law because he felt it was foundational to all other success and the other 15 Laws.
