As the curtain draws on 2019, I am happy for what turned out to be a year of huge growth professionally. To my family, coaches, mentors and friends who supported me, thank you and God bless.
One of the most inspiring events of the year was Eliud Kipchoge becoming the first person to run 26.2 mile run under 2 hours. His achievement was jaw dropping but what struck me most was the impact of his team of pacemakers. These 42 experienced, world class runners came together to make Eliud’s dream come true. They shared the limelight for a few moments but ultimately, they faded, and it will forever be known as Eliud’s achievement.
My biggest lesson over the course of the year is that there is huge satisfaction in helping others grow and achieve their objectives. I realised that there are several people within my immediate circle that my input could make a great difference and I am grateful for all those opportunities at work and less formally where I was able to make a difference.
Going into 2020, I want to build on this. For as many of my friends and contacts, there are two questions I will ask and hope to act on:
1) What are you trying to achieve in your professional life; and
2) How can I help?
I will still actively seek out sponsor, mentors and other partners to help me achieve my objectives, but I will not let that distract me from what’s more within my control: being a pacer in someone else’s race.
