A Letter from our Cofounders

Dear Pack, Peers and PetsApp Subcribers...

PetsApp cannot and will not sell your clinic’s data. You’re right to be discerning about it. The trust of the veterinary professions has been rewarded by the old bait and switch manoeuvre more than once in the past - once bitten, twice shy and all that. we get it!

When we started PetsApp we spent countless hours and ￡￡￡ on calls with our lawyer, Sarah. Depending on your outlook on life, we were fortunate enough to have spent significant time with a GDPR expert, taking time to ensure that everything we did would protect the data of the clinics we worked with, and in turn their clients.

PetsApp is a platform we have built for the veterinary community. So that clinics are not forced to upload their client lists to Big Tech platforms powering blackbox advertising algorithms that ultimately direct pet owners away from veterinary channels.

Will's background in the compliance data space informed us of how we needed to build PetsApp to be compliant with GDPR. The agreements that we crafted purposefully set out strict restrictions on how the data collected through could be used. To that end, our agreements are clear and easy to read. And all clinics who sign up to PetsApp have access to their agreement at any time.

Part of our rationale around not using social media platforms to facilitate communications, and instead consolidating around SMS and native chat, is because it avoids any incidental “data leakage”, through the related advertising platforms either now or in the future.

The question we would put out to the sector is: How many of the data processing agreements have you ready of the places where you are putting your clients data?

The first thing WhatsApp does for example is ask for consent to use cookies for sharing your data with advertisers! Are you ok with this? We (as a pack) 100% are not and would not back such practices!
