I know this may be premature to be singing some Mariah Carey, but I am sure many of you have already started thinking about Christmas. All the fun festivities that will be coming up and the presents that still need to be bought. But unfortunately, what is maybe consuming most of your mind is the workload that has to be done before Christmas, or maybe you are thinking about the permanent vacancy that has been open for the past few weeks that was meant to be filled before Christmas? Either way, I believe I have a solution…I think you need a Temporary worker. I have shared a few thoughts that might have you rocking around the Christmas tree a little early this year.
Employing a Temporary worker can be for Christmas, not for life.
It is obviously very important to make sure that for a permanent position you have the right person who is going to bring your team from strength to strength. Someone who will grow with the business and fit the business culture and team. For a temporary worker this is much less important. Although it is important to find someone who can do the job, if you can find someone who maybe doesn’t tick all the boxes but is able to do the job, this should be someone you consider. This person could bring excellent expertise to your team but, more importantly, could take some pressure off you by making sure the key areas of the position are covered allowing you to take your time with finding a permanent solution. If the temporary worker can help you until you find your permanent employee this is something that not only will have a positive outcome for the business, but will help a new employee coming into the business as they will not have a large backlog of work that can be off-putting to a new employee.?
‘Tis the season to be busy
Obviously as this is busy season a lot of businesses could benefit from some extra hands on deck. Not only will this take some pressure off your current team, which I am sure would be appreciated, but will also help you get through your workload in the most efficient manner. A Temporary worker is exactly that, they come in for a purpose and move on again. The experience that they have is invaluable. They can come into your team and bring not only a fresh energy, but can be efficient in their work and hit the ground running. Of course, some candidates would like the possibility of making the position permanent or having extensions but there is an understanding that this is not always possible.?

Do they know it’s a candidate’s market at all??
I don’t think you need another article or recruitment consultant to tell you that the current market is very tight. Each available candidate on the market may have a few different processes running at any one time. Candidates have more choice now than they have ever had before. One way that clients can make it through this season, which is difficult to recruit in, is to have access to temporary resources. This can help make sure that the important work continues to happen when people may be moving on. It also gives clients a sense of security having a reliable source of temporary resources to help when there is increased workload, a project, or an unexpected event.?
