All I Want For Christmas Are GRANTS!

Singing- "All I Want for Christmas is You!"

Anyone who knows me knows I am crazy about Christmas. I play Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You!" and my family knows the holiday season has officially begun in the Richardson household. The decor is hung, lights are strung, and the season begins.

For many nonprofits, your song could be "All I Want For Christmas Are GRANTS!" And rightly so. It's the end of the year- new projects are being deployed, and folks are being hired for the new year.

Here are some things to consider if all you want for Christmas are GRANTS!:

  1. How did your programs do this year? Take time to evaluate the success of your programs based on your KPIs or metrics of success.
  2. How will we measure success going forward? Do our KPIs or metrics of success need to be updated? Do we need to change who is responsible for them?
  3. Is your budget for the new year done and approved by your Board of Directors? Due to timing, sometimes this doesn't get done until the new year, however get on this pronto.
  4. Have you updated your grant research report? Consider what funders should be removed and which ones should be added.
  5. Do you have a funder relationship building strategy in place? Determine who you want to target in the new year and who should be leading the relationship building activities.
  6. How much general operating funding vs. program funding do you need? Much of these with be determined by your general operating and programming budgets.

Happy Holidays everyone!
