All about Goals...

All about Goals...

This week, we took a deep dive into the power of having a target that you are working towards. Something that isn't just a bullet point on your resume but a guiding star for your daily hustle.

Here is a quick summary of the insights with links to the posts if you want to get more detail and read some of the comments.

Don't Spin Your Wheels

Many people work very hard, but despite the tremendous amount of effort the are not getting any joy from their work, progress is slow and motivation may be very low.

Like a car - spinning its wheels. Very little control and almost as little forward movement.

We explored how pinpointing where you stand and where you want to go infuses purpose into your professional life. Remember, "This is where I am, and this is where I'm headed" can be a game-changer.

The value of Setting a Direction

How Big does a Goal need to be?

Not all professional goals need to shake the earth.

Even the quieter ambitions can create motivation where previously there was none. Learning a new skill, finding ways to have more family time, or even just to again be happy at work or find purpose in your career aspirations.

These personal milestones are just as pivotal and can be even more inspiring than the big career goals. Proving that sometimes, the best goals are the ones that make life better, for you.

So what is a meaningful goal anyway?

Does it have to Align with the Company Goals?

We also talked about a slightly more contentious point, given the push in popular media for employees to be fully engaged with everything an company or employer does.

And the conclusion was - No, there is still space for the person who does a great job and then goes home because they are focusing on different goals. Their current position may just be a stepping stone to something else.

But - this is not a bad thing. These people typically do work of an exemplary nature. Their goal oriented focus means they work with dedication, they take ownership and hold themselves accountable for their responsibilities. They do a great job and provide great support - and then go home. And that's ok.

What does full Engagement look like?

Aiming for Change

Aiming for change isn't just about reaching a destination; it's about transforming your journey. But taking that first step, and then having the right system to follow and the right support to help you through the tough times - those are crucial.

This week we made available a FREE concise version of our "Break Out, Move Up" program. It's a straight-shooting, take-charge manual for anyone ready to take the next step - aim and work towards a meaningful change.

Is Your Team Change Ready?

Lastly, we unveiled a nifty technique to gauge your team's readiness for change. Perfect for assessing the gap between 'here' and 'fully onboard,' this tool can be a game-changer for any leader.

It is called the Fist-to-Five technique and we created a short guide video to explain how it works and where yo use it.

First-to-Five - Are you Ready?

May your Week ahead be full of purpose and drive.
