All about food cleanrooms

Cleanrooms are used in food and beverage manufacturing to conform with FDA CGMP regulations.?

The NSF is another standard for the food and beverage industry. The National Sanitation Foundation Institute is an organization that certifies food equipment that is designed and built in accordance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA) food safety and environmental health standards. Many beverages and food manufacturer conform to NSF standards.

Cleanrooms are most common for beverage bottle filling operations but also for some food products. Since the bottles are often filled and sealed at elevated temperature in moist steam filled environments preventing contamination is very important.

Typical food cleanroom features include:

  • Sloped heat welded vinyl floors with integral cove and floor drains are used to reduce moisture build up on cleanroom floor that could encourage bacteria or mold growth.?The heat welded vinyl floor is extremely durable and allows for vigorous regular chemical cleaning of the floor.
  • FRP or stainless steel cleanroom walls to allow regular chemical cleaning.
  • HVAC?to control?temperature and humidity in food cleanrooms.
  • Recessed HEPA filtration to prevent moisture from reach HEPA filters
  • Conveyor openings in cleanroom walls
  • ?High bay ceilings for mixing tanks
  • Spill containment berms
  • Roll up doors for fork lifts material transfer
