An all-female creative team gives us a female lens
Most fashion images are created by male photographers. But that makes sense since the photography industry has been overwhelmingly male since its inception in 1826. It's no secret that women have been the subject of a male gaze for thousands of years, whether in the form of a painting, sculpture or photograph, think Michelangelo, Rubins, Rodin, Picasso, Avedon, Ritts, Terry Richardson (yuck). So, when I see a woman making her way in the fashion photography industry I take note. It tells me she is committed.
Recently fashion and lifestyle photographer Elke Van De Velde pulled together an all-female creative team to photograph female models in studio. This is what it looks like when women are seen through a female lens. "We had fun," says Elke. "I'm super pleased with the images and I know the crew really enjoyed the experience. It was a relaxed and collaborative environment."
Elke's team included art director Irina Scott, hair and makeup artist Heidi Nymark, wardrobe stylist Michele Andrews, Model Makenna Mueller and Katie Nuener. To see more from Elke please go to www.sallyreps.com/elke-van-de-velde.
