Welcome to the series that will be discussing wellness programs within corporation. This article will provide you a brief overview on the benefits. Feel free to comment.
All corporation should have a wellness plan. A bold statement from a person who has only been a part of the corporate wellness approach for 1 1/2 years. In the 1 1/2 I have learned the specifics of a corporation, and the reason why prevention is the key to a corporations success. In this article I will provide statistics, both performance and injury rates, that will show you why all corporations should have a wellness plan.
To introduce myself, if you haven't already looked at my linked in profile, my name is Dr. Daniel Eichner and I am the athletic trainer and chiropractor for a major Fortune 500 company. The company I work for has over 22 billion dollar ventures, and has been shown time and time again as the safest and happiest place to work for. Since the start of working there I have made it a mission to provide a prevention and wellness initiative. Although I can not share with you the specific statistics, the injury rate has dramatically dropped in 1 1/2 year and the culture and happiness in growing everyday. I am known as the wellness guru of my company and I am continuing to grow the idea that injury prevention has a lot of attributes in the wellness department.
Yes, if you did not read that wrong, I am the athletic trainer and chiropractor for a major Fortune 500 company. How does this happen? The company I work for is all about making sure the employees are the healthiest. My company is not alone. If you count Facebook, Google, 99 cent store, Delta Airlines, Ceasars palace, Martins Windows, and so on, wellness is here to stay. The top reason (according to risepeople.com) that employees miss work days include: constant fatigue, sleeplessness, aches and pains, and high anxiety.
To combat the missed days at work that are shown in some corporations, I have set up two weight loss programs, that combined, are currently at over 600 pounds lost as a site. I have created pamphlets to decrease stress in the workplace. I have instructed patients on proper sleep habit, especially since 3rd shift has the least amount the sleep. Fatigue is both mental and physical. Both can be address through a wellness initiative.
Enough about the initiative I take to combat the lost in lost time. Let's look at the cost of healthcare in the country. If healthcare was its own country it would be the fifth largest country in the world. You may ask, why is healthcare so expensive? Healthcare is based on risk. The more risk the business has, the greater chance someone will get significantly hurt. The lower the risk, the less the chance, the lower the healthcare. Insurance is a business to make money. Otherwise there would be non profit insurance companies, and no medicare and medicaid are not non profit.
Preventing an injury, decreases your healthcare. This in turn saves money for your employees. It's quite simple. Find the experts and health care in utilize their techniques. I have added wellness programs, treated work and not related conditions, fixed many hazards before they were issues, and supported the company I work for. You may place my Return of Investment on a couple 100,000. This does not include the statistics you can't look at including overall happiness, sickness, and effects of peoples personal lives. I do not stand here to be the best at what I can do, I stand here to show you the benefits of onsite medical. And that country of healthcare, a total of 3 billion!, the average cost of a wellness program is 150 per employee. Average cost of an outpatient physician office visit, 199. Prevention pays.
