Are brownies cake or cookies?
Chocolate brownies are baked chocolate treat and come in many varieties. They can be chewy, cakey, gooey, fudgy and moist. You can add the nuts and frosting according to your preference. Vegan brownies, protein brownies and brownie box are very famous among the bakeries and coffeehouses. But brownies are a form of bar/sheet cookies as they are typically eaten by hand as a finger food like cookies where the cake is typically eaten with a fork. The main thing here is that the bar and sheet cookies use entire sheet or baking pan as their form and then being cut into individual portion either before baking or immediately afterwards. Whereas the cake is considered and presented as a whole and sometimes decorated or layered with different kind of frostings and creams. But nowadays no one cares much about classification if you make them delicious.
Pro tips before you start:
1. Line the cake pan or baking tray with Aluminium foil and parchment paper.
2. Measure your ingredients carefully specially flour—adding too much flour will give you dry and cake-like brownie.
3. Use high quality chocolate.
4. If you need chewier brownies just add the brown sugar instead of castor sugar.
5. Don’t burn the chocolate while melting it with butter. Best thing is melt the chocolate separately.
6. Don’t over-mix the batter after adding flour as it may create air-pockets and you can get cakey texture.
7. To get best flavor out of the nuts, roast them before adding in batter.
8. Don’t over-bake brownies, it won’t have springy center. Just check that the center is set and the top has started to crack.
I am not using baking powder and baking soda in my recipe as they can make the batter airy and brownies may rise in the oven which will make them cake-like and I don’t want my brownies to be cakey! Even I am not using cacao powder in this recipe. Follow all the instructions carefully and you are good to go!
