All the child wants to do is to be happy!
I hear a lot about the right-side of the brain doing this kind of thing, and the left-side doing other things, and if the child is a right brain thinker or a left brain thinker. As if this is not complicated enough, we have to see the child’s intelligence defined through such terms as lateral thinking, parallel thinking, visual thinking and, of course, critical thinking, not to forget internal monologue and reframing. All this completely misses the point.
All the child needs is love and patience. Give the hardest, toughest and stupidest child in the class, enough love for them to trust you and enough patience for them to rebuild their structure of understanding, and they can turn out to be the most responsible and one of the best performers in that class. Our processing education does not understand this, as it now sits the child in front of a computer screen and shows them how to press this button and that button.
All the human being wants is love. Love in school and love in society. It is because we do not understand this, that our schools and our societies are in such a mess.
