As the drone market continues to expand, with an estimated worth of $127 billion back in 2022, understanding and cooperation between the private sector and government bodies are paramount. Aerial Cities 2023 served as a platform for decision-makers for these essential discussions, fostering a shared vision for future cityscapes enhanced by advanced air mobility (AAM).
Aerial Cities 2023 featured an impressive lineup of 15 panels over its two-day span. These interactive sessions brought together governments, cities and drone organisations to talk, share stories and explore the art of the possible.
Prominent sponsors like Spright, a leader in BVLOS drone solutions and medical applications, and the Bern Development Agency, played a crucial role in the event. Keynote speakers Joseph Resnik of Spright and Rene Binnewerg from the City of Hamburg's Digital Lab shared groundbreaking insights into drone technology applications.
The conference featured case studies like the PORTwings project, showing drones' roles in urban infrastructure maintenance. Governmental representatives like Marcel Kagi from Switzerland's Federal Office of Aviation, Eileen Quinlivan from Dublin City Council, and Dr. Sebastian Friess from the Bern Economic Development Agency contributed diverse perspectives to the discussions.
Speakers like Thomas Opfermann discussed the transformative use of drones in 'aerial hospitals', highlighting partnerships like the one between Spright and St Franziskus Hospital for medical logistics. Maurus Immoos's presentation on Zurich's drone corridor further demonstrated the practical applications of drone technology.
Representatives from Aerialoop and Skyportz shared their business models and perspectives on the advanced air mobility market. During the panel, Katharina Schlittler from Voi Technology shared the company’s success stories of how they managed to enter cities all around the world.
Each panel was followed by a Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with the speakers and delve deeper into the topics. This format kept the discussions dynamic and ensured active participation from the audience, making each session an interactive learning experience.
