To be alive with more life satisfaction do 7 things.

I recently conducted a study on LinkedIn regarding life satisfaction.?If you participated in the poll, you may recall how you “felt” when you responded.

It turns out our mood impacts our perception of life satisfaction, and its highly variable.

Of course, when things are going well our perception of "satisfaction" increases.?When we aren’t feeling so good, life satisfaction drops.

Incidentally, 15% of over 6,000 people polled said they were “very unsatisfied”, 30% said they were “very satisfied” and 55% said they were content.

I would argue content is great, assuming we aren’t languishing.

Languishing implies we aren’t striving to improve situations that clearly require some attention.

Life satisfaction is at the foundation of positive psychology.

Although related to happiness, it isn’t the same thing.

Happiness is more immediate.?It can shift, unless we decide to be happy every day, which requires prioritizing life satisfaction.

Pursuing life satisfaction encourages a long-term perspective that demands developing a deep understanding about things that matter most.

My four tenets of equanimity are a great place to start.

By focusing on better health, healthy relationships, healthy intimate relationships, and more satisfying work, we increase our ability to experience more joy and happiness, both contribute to a greater sense of "life satisfaction".

The beautiful thing about life satisfaction, its subjective.?We get to decide what constitutes greater life satisfaction and it’s predicated on emotional energy.

Recognizing we can tailor a better life provides people with the latitude required to create a life that offers more satisfaction.

Be happy with what you have. Be excited about what you want.

To improve our ability to increase life satisfaction, do these 7 things:???

Identify

The first step to improve life satisfaction, concentrate on things that improve quality of life.?It isn’t expensive things, fame or social media followers.?Its health, healthy relationships, healthy intimate relationships, and more satisfying work.?What I call my four tenets of equanimity.?It’s a great place to begin and by zeroing in on proven areas that make life better, our perception of satisfaction increase.??

Prioritize

Once we identify the things that matter most, start to formulate a plan to ensure those things receive our attention every day.?Without a plan and commitment to action, our good intentions fizzle.?Use visualization to image how better health and more satisfying work will make us feel. ?Once we prioritize the things that matter most, we learn to say no to everything else.

Focus

Every great plan requires commitment and dedication.?We can’t be casual about improving our quality of life without focus.?We also need to improve our attitude.?If we entertain negative thoughts all day and bicker on social media, we can’t stay focused on the positive energy necessary to succeed.?Change our thoughts and change how we approach everything.??

Gratitude

Being grateful is essential for feeling content about our good fortune.?Expressing gratitude everyday keeps things in perspective and helps us operate from a position of gratefulness.??Gratitude helps fill our head with positive thoughts and encourages generosity.? Gratitude is paramount for improving life satisfaction.??

Short term satisfaction will never lead to something timeless.

More meaning

Finding more meaningful work is critically important for improving life satisfaction.?We spend 40 to 80 hours a week working.?A job that robs our enthusiasm, depletes our moral and fails to provide intrinsic motivation is demoralizing.?Finding meaning and purpose in life is crucial to enhance life satisfaction.?Even Victor Frankl found meaning and purpose in a Nazi concentration camp.?Creating more meaning will add immeasurable value to our life. ??

Less noise

Turning down the noise is a great way to improve life satisfaction and reduce the distractions that prevent many people from staying focused.?Learning to disconnect and take time to focus on things that matter most improves quality of life.?The need to be constantly connected creates a sense of urgency that leaves people feeling anxious and stressed.?Learn to set firm boundaries with technology and say no to anything that conflicts with our top priorities.?

Wellness

Another one of my four tenets of equanimity is better health, mentally and physically.?Without a commitment to better health, we feel lethargic and lack energy.?Feeling good and looking fit is incredibly powerful.?People that make health priority number one enjoy more life satisfaction.?A commitment to better health will create feelings of joy and accomplishment every day, and that makes life better.???

Find contentment and happiness will find you.
