Alignment Is Easier to Say Than It Is to Do

Hubilo’s “offsite” was an incredible experience – truly a workcation. We spent long hours defining our priorities and also enjoyed our opportunities to meet and bond. In particular, I enjoyed doing a geocaching treasure hunt where we had to decode 6 clues hidden at various places in the resort. I am always so inspired by how talented our employees are both at work and through their hobbies. Whether it is beatboxing or spitting fire with the pros impromptu!

Sitting in the same room made the process much more real and helped move us forward. The healthy debates pushed us past what we thought was possible and inspired us to reach for more.?

Our executives’ dedication to make this initiative and transformation successful encouraged us to bring our A-game. With us all rowing in the same direction, the hours flew by as a workcation should.?

We rallied around identifying our department OKRs and then rolled out to individuals. The democracy of the process ensured that everyone’s voice was heard and OKRs adjusted and aligned. We defined our success at the department level. Then, department heads took those goals and showed every single employee how their contributions were critical to our customers’ success and to each other.?

I met more colleagues than I had in more than two years. Our product and design colleagues are refreshingly clear about their roles in Hubilo’s roadmap. Our company contributed to, designed, and is aligned with our product strategy.?

Last year, we defined our vision, mission, values, and value proposition, but this year we brought it to life. In connecting with our colleagues in person, we have activated words that are meaningful and inspiring to everyone, which is no small feat in a global company. Not only do we remember them, but we have internalised them and are working to live them out new each day.?

As part of our value ‘Own It’, we applauded our colleagues who made the workcation possible, which was no easy task in assembling 200+ employees from 3 continents. Not only did they succeed, but they owned it, and we all benefited from their creation.

The outcome of our workcation? We have clarity and alignment and we’re energised about the future!
