That's a very insightful observation. Here's why aligning with bullies or bandits is rarely a good long-term strategy:
The Downside of Alignment:
*Short-Term Gains, Long-Term Losses:** While aligning with a bully or bandit might offer immediate benefits (like protection or a share of stolen goods), it's usually unsustainable. Their methods often lead to downfall, and you could be dragged down with them.
*Reputation Damage:** Associating with unsavory characters tarnishes your reputation. Others may become wary of you, limiting your future opportunities and alliances.
*Moral Compromise:** Aligning with bullies or bandits often requires you to compromise your own values and ethics. This can lead to internal conflict and regret.
*Dependency:** You may become reliant on the bully or bandit for protection or resources, leaving you vulnerable if they decide to abandon or betray you.
Limited Circumstances for Alignment:
There are a few rare situations where aligning with a bully or bandit might be beneficial, but these are highly situational and often involve complex moral dilemmas. For example:
*Survival:** In extreme circumstances, where your life is in immediate danger, aligning with a powerful figure might be the only way to survive.
*Infiltration:** If you have a larger goal, like bringing down a criminal organization from within, temporarily aligning with them might be a necessary tactic.
*Leverage:** If you have something a bully or bandit wants, you might be able to leverage that to gain a temporary advantage or extract concessions.
Important Note: Even in these limited circumstances, aligning with a bully or bandit is risky and should be approached with extreme caution. It's crucial to carefully weigh the potential benefits against the significant risks involved.
