Aligning with your dreams.

An year ago someone asked me why are you doing what you are doing? And that struck me. Frankly I never had a foresight of what I wanted to be. I would say I am a jack of all trades and master of none. Because, if I had to pen down my hobbies, or the things that interest me I think I can go on and on. I am a talker, I listen well, I write, I read, I draw, I paint, I love teaching, I sing, I dance, told you, the list goes on. In my opinion, it is a wonderful thing to have multiple areas of interest, be an all rounder. But are your doings aligning to your final goal?

I will ask you one question here.

What are you doing currently? Working in an MNC as an Associate? What is your end goal?

I will give an example.

One of my friend is a cricketer, he goes to net practice everyday. His ultimate goal is to play for INDIA. Of course he is on the right track. No person would slog themselves everyday at net practices just for pass time if their end goal isn’t to play for INDIA. Well if they are, they certainly are in the wrong track.

Connecting to the first question I asked about what are you doing currently, If you are an associate in an MNC, and your end goal in life, is to probably become an actor then you are clearly on the wrong path.

I had read in a book that if you don’t see your target clearly, you will never be able to shoot at it. In order to shoot, first find your target. Find your goal.

Once we have something to achieve, and we are working towards it day and night, no forces or distractions can stop us from reaching there, although time will be variable.

To sum up, if you want to become an actor, you should probably be reading books related to acting, watching interviews related to it, go to film school. Or if you are an associate, or a recruiter at some company, your end goal should be aligned to it, whether you see yourself as the CEO, Director in coming years handling the entire responsibility of an entire office.

I’ve got my answer for the question that was asked to me a year ago, the latter part above, that’s what I certainly aim at and hence, I am doing what I do.

Somehow, on a day to day basis while interacting with my candidates for interviews, checking their Skills, Goals and Interest is a crucial part of my job. If their aspiration is in line with their goals. When we can do this for the candidates, then why not ourselves?

We all lead busy lives, some don’t have time to sleep or eat their meals properly but there are people who find time for everything, because they prioritize their routine and calendarize it. I am trying to master this area. If we are running short of time because we aren’t able to manage it well, it is a prime loss for us. It will jeopardize our personal goals as well as professional goals.

A few Suggestions from my end for people to get closer to align their current doings with their passion is:

1.? Find happiness in Solitude : ?Pen down your ideas, write pros and cons, think why are you doing what you do. It helped me. Only when you are alone and sound, will you able to give area for thoughts and visions of your own, that will guide you.

2.??Start reading self help books : One suggestion would be- The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. It is a fable about fulfilling your dreams

3. Try talking to close ones who were able to do it.

4.?Exploring yourself : Knowing and understanding yourself is the most important and the toughest job. Exploring your beliefs, passion, fears and values by evaluating your hobbies will help you understand yourself better and the main goal even better. Authenticity is the key. Know yourself.?

The reason I shared this article is, because someone asked me a question last year and it rang a bell in my mind, caused me to change the way I think and made me work towards my goals, avoiding being on a wrong path. I hope by reading this bit I was able to ring a few bells out there ??

Thanks for reading :)
