Align values to drive influencer marketing results & revenue forward.

Registered dieticians getting paid to push sugar? This recent @WaPo piece made national news out of the questionable ethics of food influencers who happen to be the people many of us trust for balanced information on food choices.

If you’re diving into influencer marketing, how do you steer clear of the quicksand??

I've driven large demand and revenue from channel sponsorships with YouTube and other influencer media. While these relationships can generate substantial engagement and revenue opportunities, a lot of care is needed up-front to reduce risk and ensure success. A few simple tips:

  1. Stay centered on values. Identifying social influencers that align with your values is mandatory. Develop partner relationships with companies and brands that share operational, customer, cultural, community, and social values.?
  2. Talk about business objectives, goals and values with your marketing partners. It is imperative to create trust through strategic communications, high value call-to-action and engagement, and long-term demand and revenue activities and successes.
  3. Keep extra-clear lines of communications and transparent business relations. Don’t just “trust” - reinforce trust with over-communication. Everyone will sleep better knowing you are all definitely on the same page. The fast-paced nature of social media requires highly focused business operations.
  4. Have a Plan Z ready. Identify and propose solutions for what-if scenarios. Relationships evolve or devolve over time. It happens. What will you do when the brand that you're partnering with begins to diverge from your values?

One thing that has always served me is doing the work up front. Identify partners wisely. Do the right thing and you will be rewarded. Genuine mutual respect is real & perceived - by you and your customers.
