List of Purpose-Driven Organizations for Military-Connected Job Seekers

Many people join the military to do something bigger than themselves, to make the world a better place for future generations, and to serve a purpose.

When leaving military service, veterans experience a tremendous loss of their communities, friends, identity, security, and more. Losing their sense of "purpose" in civilian careers is the challenge I frequently hear from military-connected employees and job seekers. The good news is that a purpose-driven mindset is a translatable and valuable characteristic.

Purpose-driven mindsets translate directly into purpose-driven organizations.

Align on Purpose: The good news for military-connected job seekers is that StrawberryFrog and Dynata compiled a list of the top 100 purpose-driven brands. The Purpose Power Index measures a few different elements of each company: commitments to?a purpose beyond profit, to improving lives, and to create a better society and world, not just for shareholders.?

For reference, the Top 100 Military Friendly? employers are measured on the organization’s commitment, effort, and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefits for the military community.

Military-Friendly and Purpose-Driven: I reviewed both lists and found the following brands that, according to their metrics, are BOTH “military-friendly” and “purpose-driven."?Admittedly, it's not an "apples to apples" analysis, yet for job seekers, the overlap between the lists is noteworthy. (Please visit the links to learn more about the data analysis and reports). Congratulations to the following military-friendly and purpose-driven organizations:

  • Accenture
  • Bayer U.S LLC
  • Bristol Myers Squibb
  • CVS Health
  • Cisco
  • Hewlett Packard Enterprise
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Merck
  • Prudential Financial
  • Roche Diagnostics USA
  • Salesforce
  • Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc.
  • USAA
  • UnitedHealth Group

Tips for all recruiters and hiring managers to attract purpose-minded applicants:

  • Know the purpose, mission, and values of your organization.
  • Highlight how decisions are made that align with your organization’s purpose.
  • Share how the purpose informs business strategy, community involvement, internal communications, and marketing.
  • When interviewing, discuss how the job role directly impacts the organization’s purpose.

I hope this information is helpful to military-connected and all purpose-driven job seekers, and this awareness is useful to recruiters and hiring managers seeking to attract them.

Have a happy New Year, on purpose.
