Alienware x17 R1 review: "Pros and Cons of a Beast."

I recently upgraded to Alienware x17 R1 from my Lenovo y14. It's part of Alienware's X-series range notebooks which the company refers to as "gaming masterpieces", But the question is did they really put their entire focus on the new cooling system and end up having performance limitations? How good are the thermals levels? Details on the upgrades...

System specification :

  • 17.3-inch display options
  • FHD (1920 x 1080) at 165Hz 3ms

The 165Hz display is quite good and with all the stock hardware, Any "AAA" titles can be run with avg of 90-100 FPS on max settings. Nvidia G-Sync and Advanced Optimus can be Enabled/Disabled in BIOS after the Latest BIOS update from Dec 2021. Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 GPU(Max?TGP?140W) performs like a beast. That’s really powerful for a mobile GPU and close to the highest amount of power that Nvidia allows for its mobile graphics chips. It’s certainly the most graphically capable laptop The new Quad fan thermal system works like a charm. Even During 4+ hrs of Warzone the temp never crossed 75°C.

  • Physics Score: 24,680
  • Combined Score: 10,258

Timespy Score: 11,136

Overall the laptop is built like a tank, with hardly any flex on screen.

Pros:

  • Visual design is out of this world.
  • Slim-yet-powerful.
  • Wonderful cooling(With individual fan control.)
  • XMP and overclocking with Alienware control center.

Cons:

  • Heavy(Cant complain when it's a desktop replacement.)
  • Price.
  • MUX switch(Changing advanced Optimus in BIOS every time is irritating), at this price point there should be a MUX switch available.

The 3466mhz ram should have been faster for games as it is over clocked you might have had to turn on xmp in the bios if it wasn’t on from the factory…… I can’t find any now and was wondering if the 64gb was faster for you
