The Alien We All Recognized

One of the greatest joys of writing is the process of creating a character out of thin air. Characters become alive to a writer, and if done well, to the reader as well.

Leonard Nimoy gave life to Gene Roddenberry's character, Mr. Spock. His work as an actor was largely defined by this one role, but the impact of that iconic character has rippled through science fiction books, movies, and TV shows for two generations and shall for many more. So it is with great fondness that he will be remembered for bringing the best of human qualities to an alien character. Through him, we learned much about ourselves.
