Alien Encounter of the First Kind

Waking up to be surrounded by aliens is an exciting yet frightening thought. I would certainly be alarmed but would try not to panic. I would instinctively be curious, but caution may hold me back as I am not sure how the aliens may react to my advances.

Nevertheless, I would try to communicate with them (would sign language work?), though I can’t fathom how this will work. I’ll keep telling myself “The important thing to do is to remain calm” (fat chance for that, though!) and assess the situation and try to gauge their reactions to my advances. Are they aggressive? Or are they as curious as I am and mean no harm? I must try to focus on their body language and try to find the best way to communicate.

The first step would be to give a shot at sign language, try out a series of gestures and non-verbal cues, and convey that I am harmless and would like to be friends. As long as I appear non-threatening and avoid sudden moves, I suppose nothing serious can happen.

What if they are from a technically superior and advanced planet? Should I use basic tools and images (drawings) to convey that I am peaceful and want to know their origin? What if they can’t read signs and visuals? What language would they understand? Would the rest of the world ever believe what I am experiencing? However, as long as they don’t show signs of aggression, I would continue my efforts at communicating with them.

If I fail to communicate, I would try using some basic symbols and visual aids. Would they understand what my Smartphone is and how it works? Does Google Translate include the option of translating English to Alien and vice versa? Would universally recognized symbols or images work in this instance? But they may not be from this universe! What if they are from a distant planetary system? Do they believe in peace, love, and brotherhood? Or are all such concepts alien to these aliens?

Of course, while trying to convey my thoughts, I would try to understand their environment, and what brought them this far. And how on earth did they land here? Is there a UFO (now known as a UAP) around? These are some of the thoughts that would be running through my mind when and if I run into aliens.

Back to the encounter – Self-preservation would be my highest priority, so I would avoid sudden moves, and try my best not to display any signs of fear or weakness. You never know, it may be misinterpreted as a threat and invite some violent action. What would aliens do if they turned violent? How would they attack and cause hurt? There’s no precedent I can fall back on, nor is there time to look this up on Google.

I would calmly assess the potential hazards or risks and try to understand their physical characteristics. Do they have a heart merrily ticking away? Do they have blood coursing through their veins? No way, they are not human!

Suddenly, there’s a lot of cold sweat. Thank god the nightmare is over!
