The algorithm of the night

The algorithm of the night

Hello

I've been on a musical odyssey in the last few weeks.?After barely leaving the house for the past few years, I've managed to packing in Guys & Dolls, Hannah Waddingham, Harry Styles, the Arctic Monkeys, Pulp and (this week) Billy Joel.?And that's not even counting watching Glastonbury on the TV.

I'm not just showing off (maybe a little) but it's been good for the soul. There's nothing like listening to someone's voice bring so much joy to so many people at the same time.

If I'm to crowbar a lesson about your marketing in here, it's definitely not to worry about sounding like anyone else.?There's room on the stage for everyone.

That's not to say there aren't a few rules to make yourself get a bit more airplay though (I realise I'm stretching the analogy now).?LinkedIn is tweaking it's algorithm all the time, but below are a couple of things that seem to be working - or not. There's no point tying yourself in knots trying to game the system, you'll make yourself miserable. Say what you need to say, and don't worry too much about it. However, there's no harm in trying out a few different things and seeing what happens.

So until next time.

Enjoy

Louise

5 things to know about the LinkedIn algorithm?

  1. As discussed on LinkedIn earlier this week,?comment first, and like later.?LinkedIn can only be bothered with your first interaction on a post, so make it count.
  2. Keep it on LinkedIn.?LinkedIn seem to be very territorial, so they don't like you to send people elsewhere.?Don't include links in your posts unless you have to, and try uploading videos directly, rather than using a Youtube link.
  3. Stay active. After you've posted, don't run away.?Stay online and comment and interact with other posts.?The LinkedIn gods will smile on you.
  4. Pester Power. It can be tempting to tag a lot of people into your post, in the hope that they will share it with their network, but do so wisely. Tag them by all means if the post is about them, but if you're just tagging them for the clicks, and they don't take the bait, the algorithm will frown on you.
  5. (Don't) forget about the?hashtag. LinkedIn like you to use between 3 and 5 hashtags per post so don't forget to throw a couple in.?But don't get carried away, this is not Instagram.

Does everyone know what they're doing?

Everyone in your team should be using LinkedIn, even just a little. If they need convincing, here's my guide to what they should be doing.

Download your guide?and, If anyone needs help with knowing what's what, just let me know.

I was thrilled to be invited along to the Society of Authors Awards ceremony last week. Not only was it a chance to hang out in the beautiful Southwark Cathedral, but I also got the chance to meet some fabulous authors, both established and about to publish their first novel. Here I am with Anna Ganley, COO of SOA

And also Louise Kennedy.?Louise is the author of Trespasses, probably my favourite book of this year and winner of the McKitterick Prize as well as the British Book Awards Debut Novel of the Year and shortlisted for this year's Women's Prize For Fiction.??

From the sofa ...

The Day of the Triffids

I'm not usually one for Sci-Fi, but my book club choice this month as an absolute corker.

In this classic, John Wyndham explores what would happen if 95% of the population woke up blind, and massive plants where lying in wait to kill us.??Also fascinating to read in these post-pandemic times.

Poker Face

It's a complete treat.?Columbo has been top of list of comfort viewing since I was about 12, This brand-new programme has all the feels of the 70s episodes, in that we know who did it at the start. This time, the heroine can tell when people are lying, has an air of Suzy-Quattro and has ditched the raincoat. She also travels from town to town in that Quantum Leap, Littlest Hobo, Incredible Hulk way. What's not to like!

And here are some nice things other people have said ...

Thank you so much.’????Becca Khanna, Leadership Coach & Higher Education External Adviser, Shared Wisdom Limited.
