ALFA ROMEO 33 Stradale - Case History
ALFA ROMEO
On the set of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, I served as the director of photography, collaborating closely with the director and my dear friend Marco Sbarra . I was aware that we would create something extraordinary together. This photography project was truly special because it offered me the opportunity to work with a prestigious Italian automotive company like Alfa Romeo, renowned for its elegance and performance. The main challenge was to capture the beauty and essence of such an iconic and prestigious car, especially considering that only 33 units would be produced, destined for a select group of customers.
The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a symbol of elegance and power in the world of road sports cars. This project gave us the opportunity to celebrate this mechanical marvel through the art of photography.
As mentioned earlier, the entire set was meticulously crafted with attention to every detail. One of the main challenges was to create the perfect lighting to highlight every line and curve of this four-wheeled masterpiece.
THE LIGHT SCHEME
We set up a 6x6-foot bank, inside of which we positioned Litepanels Gemini 2x1 and Litepanels Gemini 1x1 panels, with Nanlux Evoke as fill light. These lights played a crucial role in ensuring even and soft lighting that accentuated the car. Despite the complexity of the setup, it was essential to achieve the desired effect.
To ensure total control of the light and prevent spillage outside the designated area, we used a 6x6 butterfly along with a sort of black "skirt." Additionally, to brighten the car and create that visible continuous line as the car rotated on the turntable, we placed Astera Titan lights on the ground. These elements allowed us to precisely direct the beam of light, highlighting every feature of the car.
