Alexis Ohanian Is Betting on This AI Fashion App
Would You Let AI Pick Your Outfits?
Hello from SXSW! I’ll be sharing a full recap of this year’s biggest themes and trends in my next newsletter. But in the meantime, this story caught my eye—thought it was worth sharing! Doji, a new AI-powered fashion app, is the latest AI company to get attention from some name worthy investors and tech insiders.
Launched in January 2025, it allows users to create virtual avatars using their own likenesses and try on clothes from the comfort of their homes. The app's private beta has early users sharing their AI-generated looks online. Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian is a major fan and investor, backing the startup through his venture firm, Seven Seven Six.
Doji aims to solve a common problem in online shopping: the inability to try on clothes. By simply uploading a few selfies, users receive a lifelike avatar that models clothing items, including curated designer pieces from brands like Maison Margiela and Diesel. The app even lets users import their own products to try on, making it easy to shop without leaving the house.
The app’s creators, Dorian Dargan and Jim Winkens are combining their expertise in AI and consumer tech. They designed Doji with everyday users in mind, making it easy and enjoyable to use. The app is tapping into a growing trend where AI is revitalizing consumer tech and attracting investor interest.
Doji isn't alone in the virtual try-on space, with other startups like Vybe also receiving funding. But Doji stands out by offering a personalized experience, allowing users to experiment with their style and make more informed purchase decisions.?
AI has already made significant strides in the fashion industry, from virtual fitting rooms to personalized shopping experiences. Brands like Stitch Fix and ASOS have embraced AI to refine their algorithms for better customer recommendations, while Nike has incorporated virtual try-on features to improve the online shopping experience. Virtual stylists and AI-powered recommendation engines are transforming how consumers shop, helping them find the perfect pieces without ever setting foot in a store.?
Doji is just the latest example of AI’s growing role in fashion—turning the once-static shopping experience into something interactive, personalized, and, dare I say, fun.?
???My Hot Take: I’ve actually used ChatGPT to get outfit advice for events, conferences, and even packing for different weather. But imagine a future where everything you buy is automatically logged into an app—no need to take pictures or manually add items. AI could then help style your outfits daily and even pack for trips. Basically, Clueless IRL, and I’m here for it!
Keeping my eye on… Manus
I came across this video, and it completely blew me away—an AI seamlessly managing 50 tasks at once. Is this the future of multitasking? Perhaps. Meet Manus.
Many are calling this China’s ‘second DeepSeek moment’—a major leap in AI autonomy and productivity. Unlike traditional assistants, Manus doesn’t just suggest ideas—it executes them.?Whether it’s managing complex work projects or planning your next trip, this AI-powered multitasker is designed to handle it all.
