Alexander Williams Recruitment Ltd are incredibly delighted to welcome our first hire, Finley Griffin !

Finn will be working part-time on a fixed term contract for the next 12 months or so, helping to source insurance pricing talent for our clients. He is a genuinely lovely, bright young man, who is currently completing his Data Science degree, having just completed a year in industry working in an insurance pricing for personal lines.

I had a great feeling about Finn from first interview, and he demonstrated great resilience, self-awareness, adaptability, communication skills and most importantly for me, integrity, throughout the interview process.

After a full day in-office together earlier this week, I’m pleased to say he’s lived up to expectations, and is already identifying talented pricing professionals who are well suited to roles we are currently recruiting for - as well as being a genuine pleasure to work with!

I am hoping this will be a win-win-win-win hire - for Finn, for clients, candidates and for the business.

For Finn I very much hope this will be a great opportunity to build on his soft and consultative skills, and build a network of contacts from the insurance pricing profession. I also hope this role will give him a unique and useful insight into the insurance pricing market, and clarity on the areas he might like to get into on graduating next year. Finn will be working totally flexibly, with a firm understanding the expectation is that he will always prioritise his studies.

I hope this will be a win for Candidates who have the opportunity to speak with a recruiter who has actually worked in, and has a good understanding of, insurance pricing roles. With Finn likely to begin a career with an insurer next year, I’d like to make it clear to prospective candidates that Finn is operating under an NDA so confidentiality can be assured.

I hope Clients will benefit as they should see more candidates, more quickly with Alexander Williams Recruitment Ltd having additional resourcing capabilities.

And I hope a win for the Business too as there is potential for additional revenue growth of course, but also I’ll get to work with a thoroughly nice colleague for a while. Although it might mean no clean sweep for me at the awards at this year’s Christmas party, it’ll likely be a livelier affair!

Most people I’ve spoken with about the business will know I don’t have any ambitious plans to grow the business significantly beyond its current point - certainly not now, perhaps when both kids are in school - but that’s a decision for another day! But I have been fortunate enough to be kept busy with assignments, so an additional resource finding great candidates is exactly what I need. I’ve consciously opted not to go down the AI/automation route for this, as I get the impression pricing professionals are continuously inundated with messages about sometimes unsuitable roles. I hope the human element in searching, whilst being more labour intensive, will ensure we continue to only approach potential candidates about roles that are genuinely potentially suitable, and help avoid irrelevant mass messaging.

Currently Finn isn’t totally across all the roles Alexander Williams Recruitment is actively engaged in sourcing candidates for, but is working on a great personal lines Principal Pricing Analyst role (to ￡70k, South East) that would suit someone with good commercial acumen, who would enjoy a mixed role of modelling (including Machine Learning) and advanced statistical analytics, driving actual pricing change and improved sales and profitability.
