Alex, reflecting on 2024 ??
What have been your key industry moments from 2024?
"My stand-out 2024 moment juxtaposes the collapse of Synapse in the US and Revolut securing a UK banking licence. These events mark a shift from fintech’s ‘break things’ ethos to a ‘go slow to go fast’ era demanded by regulators.
And what do you see in store for 2025?
In 2025, compliance-by-design BaaS alternatives will rise as legacy players struggle with profitability and mounting compliance costs. Regulatory waves, including PSD3, DORA, and crypto oversight like MICA, will challenge innovators while scrutinising regulators’ balance of competition, safety, and innovation. On a brighter note, 2025 may revive fintech IPOs, with Klarna, Revolut, and Stripe poised to make headlines."

"I'm signing off from Web Summit 2024!
Web Summit continues to be the grandest digital festival anywhere, drawing every type of player across the entire ecosystem. The buzz from AI this year was inevitable, but also from Fintech and Web3. I feel honoured to have twice taken to the stage. The recordings will be in the Web Summit app.
Day 1 focused on retail: firstly joining Jo?o Gabriel Chebante, CEO and Chief Venture Officer at Sinergis, in the “Get embedded or get left behind” discussion on the Commerce stage. And later learning about how Payabl's powering growth for merchants, in discussion with Thekla Paschali.
I owe a massive thank-you to Lana Dimitrova from OpenPayd, Mark Nelsen from Visa, and Rute Sousa Vasco for joining me in the discussion on “Fintech Unleashed: What’s Next?” in the Fintech area on day 2.? See you next year!?
