Why did you pursue a master’s degree at the University of Edinburgh?

I love learning about history, other cultures, as well as our built environment and wanted to continue my education focused on those areas. After I spent a semester abroad in Barcelona, I knew Europe would be the best place for me to pursue a degree in Architectural Conservation as it combined all of those things in one.

 What led you to construction?

My first job when I returned to the US was with a construction company, reporting to the vice president and completing varied tasks. One responsibility that I particularly enjoyed was estimating. I am a methodical, process-oriented person, which fits in with the personality types of people who land in our field.

Did you develop a specialty in estimating?

As MYCON has grown, our department has grown as well. Organically, we each have specific sectors we work on more than others due to sub-contractor relationships, but we are a team and can work on anything!

 Favorite activity outside of work?

My passion is travel and photography, and I am grateful for the opportunity to visit so many places, including some of my favorites like Peru and Spain. These diverse experiences have broadened my perspective and exposed me to different people, cultures, and circumstances which is valuable for the workplace.
