Alea iacta est

The famous words of Julius Caesar ring in my ears. He crossed the Rubicon 49 BCE, effectively paving the way to the demise of the Republic and the dawn of the concentrated power of the Emperor.

Something disturbing is unfolding before our eyes at this very moment. The Capitol in Washington D.C is under siege, a sight that is reserved to dictatorships in other parts of the world , not the United States. Lady Liberty is wounded, how critically we just don't know. Should we surprised by these events? I say, no. The writing was on the wall long before the breach of the Capitol. The summer of 2020 was all about unrest, looting, anarchy from the extreme left, today's attack is about the extreme right; two sides of the same coin - collectivism.

In the shuffle we lost something very precious, the INDIVIDUAL. It seems that reason and free thinking have been discarded, meaningful discourse has been dismantled and the art of debating lost. We have become binary, either for or against; entrenched in a war of attrition. What if the last bastion of freedom falls? What if the ideal of individual freedoms, guaranteed by the Constitution fails? What then? Who will uphold these sacred tenets and guards against tyranny? Has the United States crossed the Rubicon reaching a point of no return?

Long live the Republic!
