Aldi Reaches 400 Stores In Spain, Plans 50 Openings In 2023

Aldi?has reached the milestone of 400 stores in?Spain, with the opening of a new supermarket in?Valencia. The new outlet is Aldi's sixth opening so far this year and the first store it has opened in Valencia in 2023, taking its total number of outlets in the region to 65. Over the past three years, the German?discounter?has opened nearly 100 outlets, doubling down on its growth agenda in the country. During 2022,?Aldi Spain, which is part of the?Aldi Nord?group, increased its retail surface area by 11%. The company will continue to drive this expansion with plans to open close to 50 new shops over the course of this year.

Groupe Casino?has announced the appointment of Magali Daubinet-Salen as the new chief executive of its various?French?supermarket banners,?#Hyper Frais, Casino Supermarché and Casino Proximité. She replaces Tina Schuler in the role, the retailer said in a statement. Daubinet-Salen has worked with?Casino?since 2007, when she was appointed the head of management control for the group's?Easydis?subsidiary.

Egg prices were on average 31.1% more expensive for consumers in February 2023, compared to the same month last year, new data has shown. A combination of avian flu, inflation, rising energy costs and supply chain challenges have all impacted the price of eggs, with the price rising significantly in some markets – in Czechia, for example, egg prices are 95% more expensive than they were a year ago.Prices have also skyrocketed in markets such as Hungary (+79.2%), Slovakia (78.8%), Bulgaria (71.4%) and the United States (+55.4%), according to the data, which was compiled by Eurostat and Dutch statistics agency CBS.

British?consumer co-operative?The Co-operative Group has?reported?that its Food business saw revenue up £134 million (€152.7 million) to £7.67 billion (€8.74 billion) in full-year 2022. Wholesale revenues were up by £53 million (€6.04 million) to £1.44 billion (€1.64 billion). It said that its 'Pure Convenience’ programme, launched in September, is enabling the group to focus better on convenience and value, with the number of transactions per week increasing 5% to 16.4 million.

SPAR Hungary?is?consolidating?its?sustainability initiatives?with the introduction of several programmes, including?digital solutions?to cut down paper consumption, the reduction of?plastic?film in logistics, and the in-store collection of waste cooking oil. The retailer has introduced digital solutions to reduce paper-based administration processes in its stores and has eliminated paper-based cleaning logs and refrigeration control sheets. SPAR Hungary says these measures will help the company reduce paper use by approximately 14 tonnes in 2023.
