Gold leaf is a precious and delicate material that requires great skill and attention to detail to be produced and applied correctly. VilliZANINI collaborates with expert gilders to handle this precious finishing process.?
Gold leaf is the result of alchemy - it requires indeed exceptional craftsmanship, sophisticated technologies, and an in-depth knowledge of the secrets of an ancient craft that is constantly evolving.
It all starts with a gold ingot, a solid and shimmering block that through a process of refining and transformation is shaped into a paper-thin, almost imperceptible sheet, measured in microns.
With skilled hands and delicate gestures, the gold beaters take the stage. These artisans, custodians of an ancient art, divide the sheet into squares, like tiny stamps, which are then inserted between sheets of paper, ready to be beaten and stretched with mastery. Under the rhythmic blows of the hammers, the gold sheet transforms, becoming ever thinner and smoother, like silk.?
Each blow is like a breath, every movement a step towards perfection. And so, from the raw material, the gold leaf is born, an ephemeral and luminous work of art, destined to decorate and embellish the noblest of surfaces.
Being gilding an extremely ancient technique, even today the most expert gilders use natural products. These basic products called "missione" allow the gold leaf to adhere to metal surfaces.
Sometimes, to obtain particular effects, artists resort to very ancient techniques, such as burnishing with agate stone; this precious tool, gently rubbed on the gilded surface, gives the gold leaf a unique shine and reflection. At other times, however, a more antique and worn appearance is preferred, obtained through the application of aging patinas; these finishes, often based on natural resins, give the gilding an aged look, as if time had left its mark.

There are two ways to highlight your projects:
The first method is to highlight with gold only certain details; as in the case of this balustrade where the acanthus leaves and other details have been emphasized. In this way, the gold finish gives the balustrade points of light, making it unique in its kind.
The second method is to make the entire space unique, using gold throughout the structure; as in the case of this balustrade designed for a private yacht. You can see how the shiny gold surfaces catch the light, making the staircase more visually striking. This, in turn, enhances the overall luxurious atmosphere of the space, making it more inviting and prestigious.
