Alberta is introducing changes to how it issues Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for some pathways under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).
Starting September 30, candidates seeking to apply to one of the AAIP worker streams will need to submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) through the AAIP portal.
To submit an EOI, candidates must complete an online form with personal and professional details. Once submitted, candidates will be placed in a Worker Stream pool for selection. Alberta emphasizes that there is no fee to submit a Worker EOI.
These changes aim to streamline the process and allow Alberta to better identify candidates who meet its labor market needs.
Under Alberta's new Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) system for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), candidates will be ranked based on the Worker EOI points grid, similar to the federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Key human capital factors influencing points include:
Candidates with higher scores have a better chance of being selected for provincial nomination. Invitations will be sent via email.
Candidates cannot submit a Worker EOI if they have an existing Worker EOI, Entrepreneur EOI, or an active/draft AAIP application. These must be withdrawn before creating a new Worker EOI.
Alberta advises that there is no rush to submit EOIs, as worker stream draws will begin in mid to late October.?

Alberta Worker Streams
Earlier this year, Alberta modified the way it handles applications for its Worker streams to manage high demand and align with labor market needs more effectively.
In June, the province introduced a cap on the number of applications accepted into the pool each month. If the monthly target was reached, no further applications were allowed. This approach was implemented to manage processing times and stay within the 9,750 PNP nominations allocated to Alberta by IRCC for 2024.
The impacted streams include:
The new system is designed to offer applicants multiple opportunities to apply and ensure year-round access to the program.
Due to overwhelming demand, especially for the Alberta Opportunity Stream, the province paused new applications from February to June. This pause allowed the AAIP to reduce its backlog and prioritize immigration nominations in critical sectors like healthcare, technology, construction, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality.
