Alberta Introduces New Tourism and Hospitality Stream

Alberta is about to launch a new Tourism and Hospitality stream on March 1, 2024. This stream will be a part of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) and will invite candidates with relevant experience and a full-time job offer from an eligible employer in Alberta. However, there will be a limit to the number of applications accepted.

11% of Canada’s tourism-related businesses are established in Alberta. With the launch of this new stream, Alberta is aiming to meet the labour shortages in the tourism and hospitality industry and boost the economy.?

Who can apply?

Candidates interested in applying for Tourism and Hospitality stream must meet the below-listed Alberta immigration eligibility requirements:?

?Have a minimum of six months of work experience in a relevant industry.

?Have a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from an employer in Alberta within the industry.

?Already established in Alberta.

Alberta will disclose more information about the eligibility requirements and how to apply for the Tourism and Hospitality stream when it starts accepting applications.

Alberta’s tourism and hospitality industry is a booming sector, inviting millions every year. In 2022, the province welcomed 32 million people, generating $10.7 billion in tourism spending - a massive increase of $600 million from 2019 levels. This supported more than 80,000 full-time time equivalent jobs.?

The rapid growth of the tourism and hospitality industry has resulted in more jobs, especially in rural areas and communities outside large urban centres.?

Does the eligibility criteria "Already established in Alberta" imply that the candidate must be experienced within Canada i.e. indigenous applicants only?
