Albert Nguyen and Enrique Ruiz Lead Mental Strength Building Workshop at Stanford

On Sunday, December 4, 2022, Albert Nguyen, LCSW, PPSC and Enrique Ruiz, LCSW volunteered four hours of their time to facilitate a workshop called Mental Strength Building at 美国斯坦福大学 for interested students. The Mental Strength Building curriculum was designed to educate and address common problems most people face. Together, these two mental health specialists curated the workshop's content from research and their own professional experience. The workshop engages its participants with self-assessment questions while providing actionable items and tools that are essential for nurturing resilience.

Many thanks to the team at Stanford that helped coordinate the event and special thanks to Neary Rim for the help with organizing, supporting and promoting this workshop.

Mental strength involves identifying and developing daily habits that build a stronger mind. This includes practicing gratitude and mindfulness, setting boundaries, clarifying values, improving our narrative, and reinforcing emotional courage. Developing mental strength also involves breaking habits that limit us or hold us back. We can all benefit from an increased level of mental strength, and this workshop provides a great opportunity to learn the skills necessary to take charge of our mental health. We believe that everyone should be empowered to live their best life and this workshop is one step in that direction.

Our long-term goal is to extend this workshop to organizations that value mental health and have a community that would benefit from the content. Empowerment is our top priority, and knowing that we can make a difference in people's lives is what drives us to continue doing what we do. The benefits of a workplace or environment that is knowledgeable about mental health and resilience are invaluable, and we are eager to share useful knowledge with any organization that is interested in investing in its employees. Together, we can help to nurture psychological safety and increase awareness of mental health and its potential impact in the workplace and explore ways to increase resilience by teaching tools to handle the challenges of life and work. A strong team with healthy minds enhances access to better performance, employee retention rates, and improved overall quality of life.

At Optimind Counseling, we believe the most essential skill in life is mental strength!

As Harvard Psychologist, Susan David, Ph.D. says, “Discomfort is the price of admission to a meaningful life.”?

Change is the only constant in life, and with it comes a host of daily challenges. Adversity is unavoidable, but having the strength to adapt is crucial for maintaining your well-being and enhancing your quality of life.

With two decades of experience in mental health and social work between them, Enrique Ruiz, LCSW and Albert Nguyen, LCSW, PPSC not only provide much-needed representation for diversity in their field, but they also have a deep appreciation and understanding of human welfare and social issues. Both are graduates of San José State University with experience that spans multiple social systems and diverse populations, including foster care, homelessness, veterans affairs, the criminal justice system, hospitals, and education. It's a fact that the mental health system and access to care are still lacking in many ways, but as mental health professionals who are guided by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, they are dedicated to making improvements for everyone.

OUR DESIRE TO GIVE MORE

We believe in the power of collective action and feel compelled to make an impact on people's lives. It is part of our mission to give back to our community, and we are passionate about connecting with people who may not have access to mental health resources. Awareness and education is key to building strong, resilient communities, which is why over the years we've led groups at various organizations - NAMI , County of Santa Clara , HomeFirst , Momentum for Health - devoted to making a positive difference. Enrique is also a group therapist at El Camino Health where he offers a wide array of therapy groups and serves diverse client populations.

We hope you will join us in our fight to improve the overall landscape of mental health services and create a more open conversation about this important topic to enhance wellness for all. Together, we can make a real difference.

And to the inspiration and recognition of individuals that reminds us of the important work needed in the community - Jennifer D. Jones, MA, MSW, LCSW and Lance Bud Cowan, LCSW for recognizing Enrique Ruiz, LCSW 's impact and contribution. To domingo acevedo , Mario Ponce, LMFT , Mike González, MPA , Siavash R. and Balraj Bajwa, DNP, PMHNP-BC, MSN, CNL, RN, PHN , for their diligence, efforts and commitment to make a positive impact in the community. And to all the social workers, healthcare workers, frontline workers, and everyday heroes that make real changes in the lives of people they serve. Let's continue the fight.
