Albert Camus Was A Pathetic Writer So Am I

When you hear writing, a cord strikes, brimming to your nerves– your eyes brighten.

Yes, I know it happens if you are a writer or aspire to be one.

The feeling of holding the pen, crying on papers, rubbing your memories on sheets, and grinding hard to finish that one incomplete sentence? It’s exhilarating. I get it!

But will you believe me if I say people are killed for what they write?

Writers are the unsaid heroes but also murdered, assassinated and killed because some people do not agree with what they write.

You must have heard about the book ‘The City Without Jews’ but do you know what happened with Hugo Bettauer?

Most of you don’t!

Hugo was assassinated by a young Nazi Party member. Why?

Read this:

“When you’re living in 1920s Austria as the Nazi Party is gaining traction and, to steal a line from Schindler’s List, “good old-fashioned Jew-hating” is back in vogue, writing a novel about Vienna expelling all its Jews and falling into chaos and economic ruin as result — leading to the end of the Nazis and a tearful invitation for the Jews to return and save everyone — is probably not the brightest idea. Bettauer was one of Austria’s most successful and famous writers, but his work made him a noted enemy of the Nazis, who accused him of being a Communist and a “corruptor of youth.” Bettauer was shot to death by Otto Rothstock, a young member of the Nazi Party who argued he murdered to save German culture. He was declared not guilty because of insanity and sent to an asylum, but was released less than two years later.”

Hugo is just one example of how writing is often considered a sin.

Many such authors such as Isaac Babel were shot and Salman Rushdie was almost murdered after they wrote and a community was offended.

When the world started discovering Albert Camus, theories speculated his death was not accidental but preplanned. It is said he was killed by Soviet spies at the direction of Soviet Foreign Minister Dmitri Shepilov who used a special kind of weapon to create a hole in his car’s tyre which led to Albert’s death.

There is a whole bunch of lists of writers and authors who were killed because of their ideas.

But we can’t ignore those were the same people who revamped a path for the future generations to learn and inspire.

Writing might be a sin for others, but for people like us, it is a way to live.

No matter how insane it sounds, we are all sinners and we are all proud of it.
