Al About Citrine

Citrine is a stone that belongs to the quartz family. Its name comes from the Latin citrus designating lemon in connection with its yellow color. This lemony color is due to tiny amounts of iron oxide present in the stone. This mineral has also given its name to the citrus color. This gem exists in its natural state even if it is generally heated amethyst, changing from purple to citrus yellow.

The Greeks also appreciated this stone because they favored colored stones that they could easily engrave and sculpt. In Greek mythology, it was associated with the god Chiron, a doctor and knew how to bring out all the powers of citrine, namely healing, well-being, the ability to learn, teach, and memorize.

During the reign of Charles X, citrines became very fashionable and were the symbol of the joy of life and dynamism. Queen Victoria was also very fond of citrines and wore them consistently on her clothes in every way possible.

Where are the citrine deposits located?

The few natural citrine deposits are mostly found in Germany, Austria, Brazil, and Spain. As it is hardly present in its natural state, its deposits are, in reality, very often those of amethysts. In addition, its rarity stems from the fact that many false stones are present on the market under false names such as Rio Grande topaz.
