Akselos Technology Year in Review 2023: Pioneering Infrastructure Innovation and Strategic Growth

In 2023, Akselos has consistently pushed the barriers of infrastructure innovation, achieving strategic growth and industry recognition. Our efforts have been focused on pioneering advanced solutions and forging strong partnerships that underline our commitment to practical and efficient infrastructure management with Akselos technology. Through securing new investments and embarking on key projects that utilize Akselos technology, we’ve made significant strides in enhancing our global footprint and reinforcing our market presence. This article highlights the key milestones and successes that have marked our progress over the year, reflecting on how they set the stage for Akselos’ future endeavors.

Capital Infusion and Strategic Partnerships

In June, Akselos was thrilled to secure investment from GRO Capital , which will play a pivotal role in fueling our organizational growth, broadening our global reach with Akselos technology, and solidifying our standing as a leader in product innovation. GRO Capital’s commitment joins the ranks of our blue-chip shareholders, including industry giant Shell Ventures. This coalition of investors is a testament to the unwavering belief in Akselos’ vision and potential of Akselos technology..

Akselos CEO Thomas Leurent lauded the investment as “GRO’s significant vote of confidence,” affirming that “GRO’s expertise in scaling B2B software companies will reinforce our position in the market and extend substantial benefits to our customers across the globe with Akselos technology.” Maxwell Veyhe, Partner at GRO, recognized the investment in Akselos as a “rare opportunity” that unites advanced technology, groundbreaking academic research, and exceptional talent to transform industries that manage some of the world’s most essential infrastructure with the application of Akselos technology.

The year also saw us embark on a transformative project with a multi-year contract in September to implement our state-of-the-art Digital Twin technology aboard the ABS-classed Atlanta FPSO , situated in Brazil’s Santos Basin. This collaboration represents an industry-first, signifying a significant step forward in adopting field-proven digital tools to enhance safety, boost operational efficiency, and refine the management of asset lifecycles.

Ricardo Portella, Project Engineer at Enauta, underscored the significance of this initiative: “Real-time monitoring of asset integrity is a crucial factor in our decision-making for a structural health monitoring partner for the Atlanta FPSO. Akselos’ impressive capability to deliver a dependable structural digital twin gave us the utmost confidence.”

Award Recognition for Akselos Technology

Adding to our list of accolades in 2023, Akselos was delighted to be selected as a finalist in the inaugural Gulf Energy Information Excellence Awards 2023 . We were nominated in the “Best Digital Transformation – Midstream” category for our project that had built a structural digital twin of the Adriatic LNG regasification terminal. This nomination highlighted our commitment to driving digital innovation in the energy sector.

The Gulf Energy Information Excellence Awards – a combination of the respected World Oil Awards, Hydrocarbon Processing Awards, Petroleum Economist Awards, and Pipeline & Gas Journal Awards – recognized and celebrated cutting-edge technological developments and exceptional leadership in the energy industry. Our inclusion as a finalist underscored our role as a leader in infrastructure innovation, demonstrating the transformative impact of our digital twin technology on the industry.

Shaping the Global Energy Conversation

In 2023, Akselos was a dynamic participant in the global energy conversation, evidenced by our engagement across prestigious events and publication of leading thought leadership articles. At CERAWeek 2023 , CEO Thomas Leurent addressed critical challenges within the energy crisis, highlighting how our advanced simulation software can navigate security, affordability, and supply chain complexities, especially amidst geopolitical tensions and the push for sustainable practices.

Next, at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin, China , Leurent discussed a significant challenge in the energy transition – expanding the supply of critical materials to meet the rising demand associated with the energy transition. A standout statistic from the conference put this into stark perspective: to achieve our net zero goals, there is an urgent requirement to increase global mineral output sixfold. This fact underlines the imperative for major enhancements to our mining operations.

Thankfully, as Leurent and Steven Kratsis argued in their article for the World Economic Forum Agenda during the conference, digital twins could overcome mining’s challenges, such as aging infrastructure and unplanned downtime, by enabling predictive maintenance and detailed asset management. This technology was poised to improve the mining sector’s efficiency and safety, ensuring a steady supply of essential minerals for clean energy technologies.

Finally, in October, the Atlanta FPSO project was brought back into focus as Akselos presented alongside Yinson and Enauta at OTC Brazil. The presentation highlighted the revolutionary aspects of the Digital Twin technology in managing the integrity of offshore structures. It emphasized the project as a testament to the power of partnership and innovation in the energy sector. This event further solidified Akselos’ role as a trailblazer in the digital transformation of infrastructure management, consistently pioneering new benchmarks for the industry.

Looking Ahead to 2024

As the curtain falls on 2023, Akselos can reflect on a year marked by steady progress and strategic achievements. The milestones we’ve celebrated and the challenges we’ve navigated have strengthened our resolve and sharpened our focus.
