At Akoto Recruiting , our mission is deeply personal. Born from the hardships, loss, and perseverance we’ve faced, we are driven to support startups in healthcare, biotech, and adjacent industries that are changing lives. Our goal is to help these mission-driven companies emerge, evolve, and thrive—by connecting them to investors, securing funding, and reducing OUR costs of talent acquisition to ensure their success.

For Co-Founder Osei Gyamfi , this mission is a way to honor his late mother, who lost her battle with colon cancer when he was just 13. Her strength and the impact of her loss fuel his passion to support innovation in oncology and beyond. Osei recently faced another personal loss: his college entrepreneurship professor, a pivotal figure in his journey, also succumbed to cancer.

Co-Founder Kara Shea Cowan brings firsthand experience as a rare disease warrior. Diagnosed at 18 with Primary Thrombocythemia, also known as Essential Thrombocythemia (ET), rare and chronic blood disorder that occurs when the bone marrow produces too many platelets, she has navigated a life defined by resilience. Her journey deepened further when her young son was diagnosed with Primary Erythrocytosis, stemming from the same genetic mutation in their bone marrow, the JAK2 gene. Kara has also grieved the loss of loved ones to cancer, fueling her determination to help startups in oncology, hematology, and genetic therapeutics push boundaries.

We are inspired by the innovation, courage, and dedication of startups tackling challenges in cancer research, rare diseases, genomics, blood cell therapies, and beyond. Through our work, we aim to be a small part of something much greater: driving solutions that save lives and create hope.
