Zamani za kale sana, enzi za mababu wa mababu zetu, elimu ya kisasa ya kusoma na kuandika ilikuwa kitu nadra sana kupatikana katika jamii ya kiafrika, na hasa vitabu vya kusoma,na madaftari ya kuandikia, kwa sababu, masomo ya kusoma na kuandika, na pia?shule ambako watoto au hata watu wazima wangeenda kuelimishwa ili wapate elimu kama ilivyo wakati wa ?sasa havikuweko. Elimu ya kisasa kwa hivyo ni jambo jipya la kigeni ambalo lilikuja na wakoloni kutoka ng’ambo ambao walitaka watu ambao wana ujuzi fulani wa kuandika na kusoma, waweze kufanya kazi yao ya utawala walipokuwa wameanzisha utawala wao na ?na biashara, ?kazi yao iwe rahisi ?ya kutawala nchi ambazo walikuwa wamekuja kuleta utawala wao. Watu ambao walijua kusoma na kuandika wangewasaidia kuendesha utawala wao, na biashara ambazo walikuwa wamekuja kuzianzisha katika koloni zao. Hivyo, mali ambayo ilipatikana katika ?koloni hizi ?walizokuja ?kuanzisha, ilichukuliwa na ?kupelekwa kujenga na kunufaisha nchi zao walikotoka na pia kujenga miundo msingi katika nchi zao ?kama tuijuavyo siku za leo kule walikuwa wametoka, mifano ya hizi nchi ikiwa nchi za Uingereza, Ufaranza, Ujerumani, Ureno na kadhalika. Na kwa hi vyo, pia katika jamii za Kiafrika, ilikuwa muhimu kwa watoto waweze kupata angalau elimu kiasi fulani cha kuwanufaisha katika maisha yao ya kila siku, waweze kuendeleza majukumu yao katika jamii . ?Lilikuwa ni jukumu la jamii za Kiafrika kutilia mkazo yakuwa, kila mtoto aweze kupata kiasi fulani cha elimu ya kiasili, vile jamii ilitakikana kuwa,??hata kama ilikuwa si ya kusoma na kuandika. ??Kila jamii ikawa na mitindo kadha wa kadha ?ya kuelimisha jamii zao, hasa watoto wao, kuwapa ?elimu ambayo angalau ingewasaidia kuwawezesha kuendeleza maisha yao ya kila siku, kwa kuwa wahenga walituarifu ?yakuwa, elimu ni mwangaza na bila ya mwangaza, ye yote ambaye anayetaka kufika pahali popote atakapo taka kwenda, ?hawezi kufika huko bila ?ya kuangaziwa na kuona aendako. Na kwa hivyo, hivyo ndivyo ilivyo elimu, kazi yake ni kuonyesha ye yote aliye nayo kule anako taka kwenda aweze kufika huko salmin.
