2 个月Ajay Banga's Letter on #IDA-21 is Insightful as it is Inspiring. Kudos Mr. President! The Cote D’Ivoire story is noteworthy. However, "the devil is in the detail". Let's closely watch the implementation experience and get a sense of the outcome, ex-post. "African countries now allocate more resources to servicing debt interest than Healthcare-a stark and unsustainable trade-off that jeopardizes climate resilience and sustainable development" [Please read Prof. Yemi Osinbajo's brilliant piece, "How to fight the silent debt crisis engulfing the Global South", for the Financial Times]. In it, Prof. Osinbajo argued that the Global approach to debt must be reimagimed. A new framework is required, one that provides relief for heavily indebted nations while offering targeted support for countries pursuing green growth with reduced capital costs". This should resonate in the Ajay Banga-led Impact-oriented World Bank Group. If you were to ask me, I would say that, for the heavily indebted African countries, perhaps a reimagimed HIPC should not be discounted for this group of poor and Debt-Distressed countries. Debt Forgiveness is warranted for these countries. SCJ.
