Ajaero Responding To Treatment After Imo 'Assault' - Labour Leader
By Odiawa Ai
General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nuhu Toro, has given a report on the state of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, following his apprehension in Imo State on Wednesday.
Journalists detailed that Ajaero was apprehended in Owerri, the Imo State capital on Wednesday during a dissent by laborers in Imo State over a claimed "serial and habitual abuse and violation" of their rights by the state government.
As per the police, Ajeoro was apprehended for his security, yet the NLC said he was brutalised after his apprehension.
A viral video later showed Ajaero with noticeable wounds all over as he was being moved to a medical clinic in Owerri after his release from confinement.
"Ajaero is currently responding well to treatment," Toro said while giving an update in a live appearance on a television show on Thursday.
Toro said the NLC leader and other leaders with him are getting and responding satisfactorily to treatment.
"They are still under treatment and I am happy to inform you that they are responding to treatment. The chairperson of RTEAN, an affiliate of the TUC, was also attacked," he said.
"His phones were taken away by the thugs, and his money was carted away. They are recovering; they are receiving treatment in the hospital."
He made sense of the fact that the assault was in response to a notice inked by the NLC, TUC, and the Imo State government on May 7.
"he reason why we went to Imo is that the state government under the leadership of Senator Hope Uzozinma refused to honour a memorandum we signed.
“The Governor refused to honour gentleman understanding to set up a committee," he said.
