aiSim? – 5.4.0 release notes
Welcome back to another edition of aiSim's Bi-Monthly Release Highlights! We're thrilled to continue sharing the latest breakthroughs and enhancements from our cutting-edge simulation platform, keeping you in the loop with the forefront of automotive simulation technology.
What's Inside aiSim's Bi-Monthly Releases?
aiSim 5.4.0 is here! In the new version, we introduced raytracing camera in Gaussian splatting, OpenSCENARIO pedestrian support, and radar sensor updates to aiSim. We also made numerous aiSim GUI improvements, as well as aiFab, OpenSCENARIO, and AimScenario workspace advancements.
We also added geopackage to maps as well as automatic vehicle dynamics export on the content side. Moreover, we added a variety of new assets such as suburban-style building, restaurant prop, light, plant, drainage, and traffic light models, as well as new maps such as new the San Francisco Outer Sunset, or Synthetic roundabout maps.
We implemented fixes and improvements as well, such as advancing the content package's folder organization, clarifying the Atlas map importer's error messages and fixing model and map issues. You can also read about several aiSim documentation improvements and additions in the documentation changelog section.

New Features
Raytrace camera in Gaussian splatting: The ray-tracing camera sensor is now compatible with Gaussian splatting-based maps, providing accurate reflections of the environment on dynamic simulator objects. Although raytrace-based rendering is slower than raster-based rendering, it accurately reflects dynamically rendered meshes while the raster-based method only gives an approximate reflection.
Sensor 3D visualization: The aiSim GUI's Sensor Editor Workspace can now load 3D datasets – in NPZ format – for custom 3D FoV visualization.
OpenSCENARIO pedestrian support: Extended the OpenSCENARIO language support with Pedestrian entities. They can be spawned, moved to a specific target point, or moved along trajectory. You can use the OSC Editor workspace to create such scenarios.
Radar sensor updates: The radar sensor has changed as follows:
NCAP mobile lights as scenario obstacles: NCAP mobile lights can be added to AimScenarios as obstacles. They can also be added to the resimulation global movement log (see the NCAP_LIGHT value under object_type) and converted (GML to AimScenario) to obstacles when creating resimulations.
aiFab criticality metrics: Added criticality metrics to the aiFab backend. In the aiSim GUI, the plots in the aiFab workspace have been extended with the following features:
Improvements
Extended the OpenSCENARIO and AimScenario workspaces of the aiSim GUI with vehicle type and color parametrization. All existing XOSC files (in the case of OpenSCNENARIO) and scenario JSON files (in the case of AimScenario) remain compatible, as parametrization does not break their core structure.
The aiSim's OpenSCENARIO implementation has been extended with the result class that sets the evaluation of a scenario testing.
aiSim no longer uses the PedestrianDB and ObstacleDB JSON files, although they are still in the Asset package for backward compatibility reasons.
Frustum culling algorithm has been moved from CPU to GPU (GPU-driven rendering) to increase performance and GPU utilization.
Made the following improvements in aiFab:
aiSim now allows you to apply individual colors to identical meshes (e.g., buildings, trees, etc.) without the need for separate textures or materials.
When authoring aiSim assets, colorkey textures can be used to modify colors of the surfaces of meshes (e.g.: buildings, trees, etc.).

New Features
Geopackage for all maps: Included GeoPackages that enable the user to get the geographical information of a map alongside some aiSim maps in the asset package.
Automatic Vehicle Dynamics export: The Vehicle Dynamics describing JSON file can now be automatically created for the vehicle blueprint based on the data stored in Unreal Editor.
