I’m Aishwarya S. , currently a Manager I in Amazon’s Central Flow division, with nearly four years of experience. I started as a Seller Support Associate, grew into a Team Lead, and now drive operational excellence.?Originally from Udupi and raised in Bahrain, I hold an engineering degree from MIT and an MBA from VTU.

Can you describe your role at Amazon and what it entails?

As a Manager in the Central Flow team at Amazon, my primary responsibility is ensuring the smooth execution and operational flow of my team. Initially created to monitor sort center operations, the Central Flow team has grown into a proactive unit that uses data-driven insights to anticipate and mitigate risks, going beyond simple site health reporting.

I also serve as the program manager for EDITH, an in-house dashboard that integrates real-time metrics to provide automated decisions and alerts, helping reduce manual errors and decision fatigue. A key part of my role involves collaborating with the RAD/IT team to ensure IT4M requirements are connected to the MM network in advance and managing volume across the MM.

Additionally, I actively participate in WINOPS, a program supporting women in operations, and had the opportunity to reach the finals of the INOPs Got Talent competition, showcasing my passion for dance.


How has your journey to your current role at Amazon been so far?

My journey at Amazon has been both fulfilling and enriching. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities, contributing to my growth, both professionally and personally. Throughout my journey, I’ve honed my skills in project management, leadership, strategic planning, and analytical thinking.

I’m excited about the future and the continued growth that awaits.


How would you describe your perception of the learning and development opportunities available at Amazon?

At Amazon, the learning and development opportunities are extensive and deeply supportive. The company's commitment to learning is also evident through initiatives like the WINOPS program, which supports women in operations. The "Day 1" culture, which embodies a focus on innovation, agility, and customer obsession, ensuring that we’re always improving, taking calculated risks, and embracing new challenges.

Throughout my journey here, whenever my day-to-day responsibilities have gotten monotonous, I have worked towards upskilling myself. Whether it is learning technical skills, interpersonal skills or even exploring different verticals, I've sought new ways to take responsibility.

Can you briefly mention a skill or area of expertise you have improved or developed since joining Amazon, owing to Amazon's support or resources?

Since joining Amazon, I've significantly improved in stakeholder management, team management, and program management. I've honed my ability to understand and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, lead teams effectively, and deliver successful projects like the EDITH dashboard. This experience has strengthened my leadership and project management skills.

Do you have a mentor or coach at Amazon, and has it contributed to your growth there?

Yes, my manager has been instrumental in my professional growth at Amazon. His consistent guidance and support have helped me identify the key skills needed to advance in my career. Through regular feedback and constructive advice, he has enabled me to strengthen areas such as stakeholder and team management.

According to you, what is an area of expertise that everyone should develop and improve?

I believe diving deep is an essential skill for career growth. This approach fosters continuous improvement, builds trust with stakeholders, and strengthens professional relationships. Another important skill is frugality, learning to achieve more with less which encourages efficiency, cost-effectiveness, leading to optimized processes and significant savings. Together, diving deep and frugality drive strategic and operational excellence, making them invaluable for career advancement.

Can you share a unique or memorable learning experience at Amazon that has significantly contributed to your professional development?

A particularly memorable learning experience was a conflict management training session. The training equipped me with techniques for resolving conflicts constructively through empathy and active listening. Implementing these strategies has greatly improved my ability to address and resolve disputes within my team.

What advice would you give to entry-level professionals to become efficient in their career development process?

For entry-level professionals aiming to advance their careers, I recommend focusing on deep diving and continuous learning. Seek out opportunities for formal training, mentorship, or self-study to expand your knowledge and refine your skills. Staying curious and proactive will help you keep up with industry trends and develop complex skills essential for long-term success.
