AI’s Incursion in Corporate Learning: A Heads-up
AI’s advancements are not just about change. Rather, it’s about profound changes. Whatever it’s going to touch is sure to transform exponentially. Incremental isn’t in its lexicon. Ask not, what will be affected, but, to what extent men and machines are transformed. Many aspects of both the digital and physical world are about to transform dramatically.
Traditional ways of learning will be one of the first to feel the earth-shaking tremors of AI’s onslaught. It already has. ChatGPT and its advanced versions are already displaying their extraordinary capabilities. Humans are already in awe of the technology. More dazzling things are about to unveil soon.
AI incursion is hitting at the core constructs of human learning. Especially the ‘how?’. Processing, contextualizing, inferring, memorizing, and application of learning/knowledge are all destined to be profoundly impacted by its arrival into our lives and work.
In the corporate world, AI’s transformative effects will have a multi-dimensional bearing. For employees, systems, and processes. The methods of knowledge acquisition, assimilation, and application are bound to undergo a paradigm shift. To make matters more challenging, these transformative changes are going to hit more like a sudden hurricane than a gentle breeze. Management won't have the comfort of extended deliberations. AI’s current developmental progress is measured in days/weeks. Time to update the old proverb: ‘time, tide, and AI’ (advancement) wait for none. The message is loud. Start the groundwork.
An industry report released recently, by the Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CDSA) at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) and Boston Consulting Group, states that AI-driven work automation would improve productivity by as much as 25-50%. The report titled ‘AI in India – A Strategic Necessity’ predicts successful adoption of AI @workplaces by leading organizations could add Rs. 1.5-2.5 trillion in incremental profits in the next five-year period. Don’t miss the short time frames. The economic imperatives for companies can’t be more compelling than this.

At the current maturity level of AI tools, almost 60-65% of all corporate learning tasks could be effectively handled by automation. Almost all mundane writing jobs/tasks, which coincidentally form a major chunk of corporate L&D stress points, could be 100% automated. Content creation, session slides, lesson plans, emails, documentation/record keeping, flyers, banners, et al are already primed for complete AI takeover. Throw in a Conversational AI chatbot, accelerated self-learning, ultra-customized learning analysis, feedback loops, and further POA are all ready at the click of a mouse. These are bound to increase learning effectiveness. Not to underscore the pleasantness of experiences by both learner and the facilitator.
Learning analysis of all sorts has always been a big pain point for CLO’s and management. A lot of debates/arguments (and bad blood) could be attributed to this singular aspect of effective learning analytics. The lack of it. Advanced AI tools at the workplace are going to change this vexing scenario for good. Analytics of all kinds could be accessed not only in a jiffy, but also with the ease of a few mouse clicks. Elaborate and time-consuming (and unpopular) ‘Excel’ skills are passe. All that is required is good ‘sentence construction’ (prompt) skills to coax the AI tool to produce professional quality analytics and presentation slides.
The power of advanced AI @workplace is unprecedented. The best part, basic skills are all that is necessary to elicit enhanced performances from employees and digital systems. It also removes the drudgery of repetitive and mundane job tasks. With AI, humans will interact, learn and experience technology in more empowering ways. Ushering in a new era of better productivity and efficiency.
The corporate learning function is lucky to be empowered by the ‘first wave’ of AI @workplace. It’s coming faster than usual. CLO’s and management shouldn’t discount its pace of advancements. This isn’t a technology that ambles its way in. It will gate crash sooner than expected. Foresight and preparation will ensure a smooth transition. In light of this impending AI onslaught at the workplace, doubling down on newer ‘Learning Strategies’ will differentiate winners from laggards.?
