A little over a year ago ChatGPT came on the scene. 2023 will likely be remembered as either the beginning of the end or a new beginning. There is no consensus on the future, not even among industry leaders. But to "slow down" the development of artificial intelligence -? as was the initial call, has been displaced with the race to super-intelligence. Coley Cosh in a recent article contrasts the "doomers" and the "accelerationists" HERE? Who's credible with the insight, foresight, and influence to guide AI's development with guardrails to protect mankind? What values will prevail? Who will win?? Who will lose? Rather than asking a human, I've turned to a humanoid and asked ChatGPT about what humanity should be worried about in the development of AI. Here are its replies as the threats and but also the opportunities.

Special Invitation
An Inclusive Fusion Energy Future U.S. Government Announcement at COP28
The Atlantic Council is extending an invitation to join an event entitled “An Inclusive Fusion Energy Future”, which will occur on December 5, 2023 from 3:45 - 4:30 PM Gulf Standard Time (GST). The event is part of the eighth annual Atlantic Council Global Energy Forum. It will take place in-person at the COP28 Green Zone’s Connect Conference Centre, accessed from the Opportunity Entrance, and virtually on the Atlantic Council’s webpage.
At this event, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and former Secretary of State John Kerry will announce an inclusive international-partnership strategy and invitation for engagement to advance a common, bold vision for commercial fusion energy. Fusion energy holds the promise to be an abundant, safe, and reliable source of clean energy that can help the world meet its growing clean-energy demand and enable the continued flourishing of human civilization. Very strong recent technical progress and market interest in fusion provide an opportunity, indeed an imperative, to accelerate efforts in commercial fusion development and deployment. The announcement will be followed by a discussion amplifying the themes of the announcement, with a range of panelists underscoring the importance of fusion for a sustainable and equitable clean-energy transition.
This panel discussion will feature:
? Costa Samaras, Principal Assistant Director for Energy and OSTP Chief Advisor for the Clean Energy Transition, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy
? Gabriela Hearst, Founder and former Creative Director at Chloe
? Bob Mumgaard, Board Member, Fusion Industry Association
? Michelle Patron, Senior Director of Global Sustainability Policy, Microsoft
? Humphrey Mrema, Chairman, Youth Survival Organization
Moderated by: The Hon. Ernest Moniz, President and CEO, Energy Futures Initiative
For in person attendance and to ease access, advance registration for the Green Zone should be made here . For on-line registration in the Global Energy Forum or if you have any questions, please contact Chase Thalheimer at [email protected]
Hard to argue other than to hope that the irrational humans will find an irrational solution.

1 年It doesn't matter.? To begin with, no opportunity is worth extinction.? At the same time, human acquisitiveness and logical fallacies such as confirmation bias and illogic will keep us on the present course to self annihilation. Magical thinking and pleasure trump sanity.
Central to Thursday's webinar will be ChatGPT's own views on whether the opportunities outweigh the various risks.

1 年I believe that the greatest threat that AI poses is its ability to lie. The technology has gotten so good that it blurs the line between reality and fantasy. It becomes a tool for deception and ideological legerdemain.
