Airport Concoction @ Amsterdam

Airport Concoction @ Amsterdam

At Amsterdam airport, beer time while waiting for the connection led to observing behaviours in different nationalities.

The American Couple with two little kids, struggling to enjoy the beer because the kids were literally bouncing high on candy. Irritated of course with their ordeal of kid management so far, they quarrelled over who needs to look after the kids. From “How is it always my responsibility?” To “You are good for nothing?”. The funny part is kids were just having fun. Its a holiday, isn’t it.

The Indian couple upfront having a drink, probably will board the same flight as mine, took a selfie per sip, in different glass holding poses. Heineken and Proven?al rosé got papped like no ones business.

Far right where I had to tap my card for the bill, the Indian guy was talking to an American girl (I think). He tried as hard as could to dissuade her from traveling onwards to Thailand and come to India instead where he would show her nuances of culture that she would never see in Thailand. Well, men will be men !!?

Then there was the elderly British couple a table ahead. They spoke but you could barely hear anything, lest they would disturb the crowd in a pub. As they walked out they were both shaking their heads (perhaps an outcome of the polite conversation) but kept smiling at everyone.?

Right in front of me at the bar was this solo traveller — drowning himself into a beer, a glass of whiskey and a glass of some white spirit, one sip by one. I couldn’t guess his nationality but thank god he isn’t boarding Air India.

Lastly right at the corner, a same sex couple. European possibly. One with a beer and one with a glass of wine. The one with the wine was seemingly lecturing the beer guy throughout. The beer guy struggling to get in a word. The wine finishes and off he walks. And it occurred to me men don’t just often struggle with women, its the wine lovers perhaps.

Of course then there is me. Before my second drink was down, the unabashed Indian in me had judged everyone :).

In this multi cultural concoction where everyone is headed for a break, and are literally on a break within a break at the airport, they all carried their lives with them. Ironically, the word holiday means a day of exemption.

Take a day off from your life, let go, and perhaps you will realise you don't need a break somewhere in Europe to recreate misery.?
