Airplane Mode ..... #bettereveryday
Recently a friend shared very interesting TED talk by Psychologist Adam Alter on "Why our screens make us less happy?"
Adam shares that, all those hours you spend staring at your smartphone, tablet or computer might be making you miserable - and what you can do about it.
We are spending too much time on screen resulting in less personal time. Interesting talk (attached).
My take away:
- Develop "stopping cues". Dedicated start & end time for smart phones.
- No phone while having meals.
- Develop ways to control temptation to check your phone frequently.
- No screen during 1st hour of the day.
- Start using "Airplane Mode" more frequently (weekends etc.).
- Keep phone away during meetings. Be fully "present".
Life will be more richer & meaningful by leaving phone behind.
PS: Pl share your tips to keep screen behind :).

6 年Very rightly said. I also opt for LL phone at office...and at home too.

7 年Truly a great read and the talk. Two things that have personally worked out well for me: 1. Given up FB and any other Social Media platform for almost 2 years now. That falls in the apps that make us unhappy category. Initially, it was extremely difficult and I had FOMO, but leaving FB and whatsapp and other such apps was a blessing in disguise. Now, that I am back on Whatsapp (after 2 years), I have better self control and I do not have the urge to keep checking my phone every 2 mins. 2. Though I do not put phone on the Airplane mode anymore, I do disconnect Internet at times, and that makes my phone, just a normal phone. Only people who really need me call or message. Serves as a filter to the amount of information and the type of information we are opening our lives and minds to.

7 年I find 'no screen in the 1st hour of the day', most difficult and impractical as i wake up early and like to catch up on the late night users:-) What really works for me - putting the phone on silent whenever I am in a conversation with another person
